With a chassis more than capable, a 2zz turbo build would be fun... or if your overseas you can get yourself an actual Elise engine... maybe even an F20c?
Its like a poor mans Lotus Elise and most Elise owners even started out with the Spyder...
But now an Elise costs as low as 20k...
And a Boxster S is at 10k...
Although a Spyder can be had for as low as 5k, another 5k will be needed for a new engine/trans...
Which brings us back into Boxster/80s 911 territory...
Which is too bad because out of the box its better than a Miata and fine-tuned all the flaws of the earlier MR2 models(at the cost of a fast engine)...
stillkindawantthough...

I kinda like these, but it is really hard to find a good clean one now. I had a friend who had one for about 3 months. Some one ran straight in to the back of him and totaled the car out. I wouldn't mind an AW-11 or SW-20 with an F20c shove up its butt.

I don't know. The market has always seemed strangely inflated for these cars. They demand a higher price than miatas but were not priced that differently. I guess its just supply and demand. They are such great little oddballs. Amazing to think only ten years ago Toyota was making an entry level mid-ship sports car and now they are being lauded as revolutionary for selling ONE overrated lightweight RWD. We have truly lost out way...

Hot Version Touge Showdown 2 had 190hp Celica motor shoved into a MR-S, it easily kept pace with a more powerful 320hp S15 (one of the few cars to out-match Tsuchiya's AE86).

I have a 2005 Corolla XRS with some added potency. I always say if it's ever totaled, Im pulling the drivetrain and swapping it into an mrS that I can pick up cheap with a blown motor. They do however need some tasteful modifications to look more aggressive.

That post was technically only 2 sentences.

the 2GR-FE fit's in pretty snugly, plenty of people have done it. I suppoesd it's the current Lotus Elise and Exige engine.

Well, seeing that the Euro E12 Corolla got the TTE Compressor, too, I'd say a MR2 with the slightly boosted 2ZZ-GZE should be possible, too.

There's quite a few in good condition around the Carolinas. I've been thinking about one for a while, but I can't get the AW11 out of my mind.

Mwahaha.
That clip first had me all up in arms about the mismatch in terms of power (3.88 kg/hp for the S15 vs 4.84 kg/hp for the MR-S), but I came away very happy.
Tsuchiya's manical laugh as he chases the Silvia uphill is gold.

True. It is one of the very few cars that I would actually consider buying aftermarket body-parts for. Like a hard top and fixing that plasticy looking side scoop/vent.

I do enjoy the AW-11's shape oh so much. My old neighbor ended up getting one to use as a track/auto-x car. I don't think he's run it yet, all the bushings needed replacing and all that fun stuff. It seems like there isn't enough aftermarket support for the AW-11's and SW-20's though.

there's also a factory supercharger for that engine... :P I spent ages researching to put one in my old sw20
